Writing - Travel Inspired Memoir

Love, Life and Two Matching Rucksacks

At the end of the noughties, facing unemployment thanks to austerity, and coping with miscarriages, a house fire and a fragile marriage, me and my husband Jimmy gave up our jobs, our home, our stuff and car, and set off on a midlife crisis trip around the world, carrying all our worldly goods on our backs. I wrote as we went, unveiling tales of the amazing, the quirky, the weird, the challenging and the every day of a #grownupgapyear as we went.

What happened to us in the decade since we returned we never could have anticipated. Both utterly amazing things and opportunities we could only dream of - like us both creating new careers in our late 40s and working in television. But also coping with mental health challenges and way more, the stuff of nightmares and the kind of stories you rarely hear people talking about.

Fast forward a decade, life totally transformed and now in a very sunny place (albeit with scars), we’ve just rewound part of the journey in south east Asia —in the opposite direction and this time with a bit more in the bank.

Taking you from a house in Bradford that never did see the family it was meant for, to the glitzy TV studios of London, and even a cameo in an award-winning film that hit Hollywood, my journey has been one eventful ride. We'll dive into the depths of mental health struggles, the breakdown of a marriage, and the very triumphant and positive journey to healing. Join me in crossing Europe, Asia, and Australia, then hopping on a Greyhound for an adventure across North America. Along the way, we'll meet a cast of characters and encounter countless tales. Buckle up as we navigate the twists and turns of everything in between. Being honest and open about challenges but always with my endless optimism and love of life.
